CDC HOSTS PRESS CONFERENCE ON CFS

Take Action!

Thank director Dr. Julie Gerberding today!

The very first national CFS awareness campaign launched in June. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has provided funding for the campaign and its CFS research program has contributed 80 peer-reviewed research publications to the medical literature over the past 6 years. CFS is featured on the CDC’s home page at www.cdc.gov and they’ve expanded the information available at www.cdc.gov/cfs.

On November 3, CDC and the CFIDS Association of America will host a press conference at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. CDC Director Dr. Julie Gerberding will lead the event and underscore the severity of the illness, the need for greater awareness among the public and better understanding by health care professionals. Assistant Secretary for Health John Agwunobi will announce new grants for CFS research just made by the National Institutes of Health. You can read more about the press event and other speakers' messages at http://www.cfids.org/sparkcfs/launch.asp

Press coverage of the Nov. 3 event begins tonight (Nov. 2) with the NBC Nightly News story about the campaign and CFS. Health reporter Bob Bazell has interviewed Dr. Gerberding and CFS patient and CFIDS Association Board member Jennifer Spotila for the story. Check your local listings and be sure to watch this program! The Nov. 13 issue of People magazine (on newsstands on Nov. 3) includes the full-page ad about CFS and begins a second series of advertisements in selected national magazines. News of other national and regional coverage will be sent to CFIDS Link subscribers on Friday afternoon. Sign up today to make sure you don't miss these exciting announcements! For a recap of recent stories in the press, visit http://www.cfids.org/sparkcfs/media-coverage.asp

We need to make sure the CDC's leadership know how important this historic campaign is to the CFIDS community. Please follow the TAKE ACTION prompt, then click "GO" to quickly send a message of gratitude to Dr. Gerberding TODAY.
