Association News

Thank you to departing Directors
Five members of the Board of Directors of The CFIDS Association of America have elected to retire from the board this year. Their departures come as the result of various personal, family and professional obligations and choices.

The departing directors are: Coco Crum, Heather Frese, F. Kenneth Iverson, Allison O'Neal and David Patterson.

Each of these directors has made important contributions to the Association, and we will miss their service on the Board of Directors. However, we look forward to their continued dedication to the Association's mission.

Please join the Board and staff of the Association in thanking them for their service and wishing them well as they focus on the personal and professional challenges ahead.

Strong response to Wall Street Journal
On Dec. 23, the Wall Street Journal published an editorial that was highly disdainful of CFIDS. The national financial newspaper was critical of an anticipated ruling from the Social Security Administration regarding CFIDS. The newspaper decried the "now rampant diagnosis of CFS" and dismissed CFIDS advocates as extremists "portraying themselves as victims of apathy, official deceit or some other government or corporate plot."

We responded, both with a letter from the Association and with a C-ACT Alert. Many of you joined in the response. We have received copies of dozens of letters you have sent to the Wall Street Journal, and we appreciate the constructive and reasoned approach of your letters.

800 phone service modified
In order to improve our responsiveness to your telephone calls, we are streamlining the options on our 800 telephone line. That line will now be used for requesting general information from the Association. Members who have questions about their membership or other specific concerns should call the Resource Line at 704/365-2343, where they will get prompt and personal assistance from the Association staff rather than having to leave a message on an automated voice mail system. The Resource Line is staffed from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Eastern Time on Monday through Thursday, and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday.
