From the editor:
This issue continues our coverage of the 1998 AACFS conference.
We look forward to following promising research and continuing to explore other critical issues.
We
also offer an update on Ampligen in the form of a Q&A with Dr. David R. Strayer, Medical Director
for Hemispherx Biopharma, responding to a number of frequently asked questions about that investigational
drug. Another investigational drug, galantamine hydrobromide, manufactured by Shire Laboratories of England,
also begins clinical trials in the United States. If you are considering participating in a clinical trial,
read the article on page 9. It is full of information you should consider when making such a decision.
Plans for upcoming issues of the Chronicle
include a look at the
controversy surrounding cognitive behavior therapy and a discussion with a doctor whose approach to treating
CFIDS centers on nutrition. We ll also turn our focus to issues of living with CFIDS, with a recognition
of caregivers and contributions from a number of your fellow PWCs.
