New Study Links CFS to Enterovirus Infection
Researchers John and Andrew Chia have published a study in the Journal of Clinical Pathology that a group of viruses known to cause gut and respiratory infections may be associated with CFS.

CFS Researcher Gets Grant from NIH to Study Retrovirus
On September 21, 2007, Brigitte Huber was awarded a grant from the National Institutes for Health (NIH) to study the presence of a specific retrovirus (HERV-K18) as a predictor for CFS. The grant was awarded based on data from Huber's pilot study, funded by the CFIDS Association.

NIH Meetings Target CFS Researchers
In September the National Institutes of Health (NIH) sponsored a learning session to inform CFS researchers about "best practices" in grant writing and to highlight specific NIH funding opportunities that match current directions in CFS research.

The NIH is extablishing the Multi-disciplinary Approach to the Study of Chronic Pelvic Pain (MAPP) Research Network to understand the relationship between FM, CFS, IBS and interstitial cystitis.

Association Expands Its Research Program
Research is the key to so many goals embraced by the CFS community. In the latest move to advance the field of CFS research the Association is preparing to shoulder a greater share of the responsibility for progress by hiring a full-time, doctorate-level Scientific Director to translate scientific ideas and opportunities into action.

Personal Stories: The Unexpected Enemy
October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. In recognition of this important subject, we've chosen to share with you a story submitted by an Association member who experienced domestic abuse firsthand, removed herself from the source and hopes to alert people with CFS about an issue that can affect us all.
