Don’t Miss the Fantastic Media Coverage of CFS

The media’s response to the press conference announcing the national CFS public awareness campaign has been remarkable. In just one month’s time there have been more than 175 stories in print, broadcast and online media outlets. But the volume of the coverage is not the only thing to celebrate. The stories themselves—the content, tone and tenor—give the entire CFS community cause for celebration. In story after story, the illness is validated with declarations that CFS is real and deserving of attention from the government, the medical community and the general public.

We encourage you to visit the Media Coverage section of campaign website frequently to read these stories and view video clips of broadcast coverage. We are updating this section several times a week to keep it current and stories are dated so you can easily see what is new since the last time you visited. Visiting often and clicking on links to various stories not only keeps you up to date on the media coverage CFS is receiving, it also signals to media outlets that CFS stories are popular among viewers and readers. Whether it’s the New York Post or the CBS affiliate in Philadelphia, these media outlets track how many people click on each story or each video link. When hundreds, or thousands, of visitors to their website click on the link to a CFS story, it tells them that people are interested in CFS and encourages them to cover the illness again.

You can also contribute to awareness and education efforts just by thanking the media for covering CFS in a balanced and responsible way by participating in our Grassroots Action Center alerts. We have two new alerts that allow you to thank newspaper reporters and thank TV reporters for their excellent coverage of CFS. Just click on the links highlighted here and follow the simple instructions to use this powerful online tool. We know it works. The NBC affiliate in Rochester, New York, was so overwhelmed by the positive feedback they received for Jennifer Johnson’s November 8 report on CFS that they did a follow-up segment on November 15.

New DVD Includes Key Campaign Coverage
In response to requests from so many people in the CFS community to make the entire press conference and key TV interviews available, the CFIDS Association has produced a DVD containing the press conference, the TV and radio public service announcements, the seven-minute segment edited for the video news release, the NBC Nightly News story, and TV segments done by CBS in Philadelphia, NBC in Miami and NBC in Rochester. The DVD is priced at $10 and can be ordered on our Resource Line at 704-365-2343 or through our online store.

Packet of Press Clippings
Again, in response to requests from people who can’t access the stories themselves or who want articles to send to family members and friends that validate CFS as a real illness, the CFIDS Association has created a packet of 25 articles and broadcast stories that have recently appeared. To order your packet of press clippings, call our Resource Line at 704-365-2343 or visit our online store. The packet is just $8.
