Katie Couric's interview with Dr. Karen Sarpolis on The Today Show (1/28/01)

Media Alert: 2/1/2001

Thanks to Kathleen Houghton of the Alaska CFS-MCS Association for posting information on Co-Cure about Katie Couric's interview with Dr. Karen Sarpolis on The Today Show (1/28/01). Dr. Sarpolis, who manages two women's health pages on the Internet, was interviewed about causes of fatigue. When asked by Couric about CFS, she responded that "it only affects about 10 in 100,000 women" and has a sudden onset.

The CFIDS Association of America is contacting Dr. Sarpolis to educate her on more recent prevalence figures and clear up misconceptions about the illness.

To view the interview, go to http://msnbc.com/news/523765.asp and click the "Play Video" icon. To view an article about CFS on Dr. Sarpolis' web site, see http://www.estronaut.com/a/chronic_fatigue_syndrome.htm.

To respond to Dr. Sarpolis about her comments on CFS, e-mail her directly at ask@estronaut.com.
